Car AC Repair & Climate Control in Carmel, IN

If the AC is blowing warm, the heat won't come up, or the defroster can't clear the windshield on a January morning, Evolution Motorwerks repairs air conditioning, heating and climate control systems on all makes and models.

Your heater runs on engine coolant, so heating problems often trace back to the cooling system. We service that too: thermostats, water pumps, radiators and hoses.

Common AC and heating problems

  • AC blows warm, or only gets cold at highway speed
  • Weak airflow from the vents even on high
  • A musty or sour smell when the AC or fan turns on
  • Clicking, rattling or squealing when the AC is switched on
  • Water on the passenger-side floor
  • Heater blows cold, or the temperature gauge runs higher than normal
  • Windows fog up and the defroster can't keep up

How we approach AC and climate repair

Find and fix the leak

An AC system is sealed. If it's low on refrigerant, it has a leak. A recharge alone may cool for a while, but the problem comes back until the leak is found and repaired.

The right refrigerant

Many vehicles built in roughly the last decade use R-1234yf refrigerant instead of the older R-134a. The two are not interchangeable, so it matters which one your car uses.

Compressor, condenser and controls

Warm air can also come from a failed compressor clutch, a blocked condenser, a blend-door actuator or an electrical fault, so we test before replacing anything.

Airflow and cabin filter

Weak airflow is often a clogged cabin air filter or a failing blower motor.

Heat and cooling system

No heat usually means low coolant, a stuck thermostat or a clogged heater core. Overheating needs immediate attention to protect the engine.

Don't ignore an overheating engine

If your temperature gauge climbs into the red or you see steam, pull over safely and shut the engine off. Driving an overheating engine can warp the cylinder head and turn a hose or thermostat repair into major engine work. Call us at 317-626-5312 to talk through next steps.

Climate problems sometimes start electrically, with a blown fuse, a bad relay or a failing blower motor resistor. See our electrical, starting and charging page for more.

AC & Climate Control FAQ

Why is my car AC blowing warm air?

The most common cause is low refrigerant from a leak. Other causes include a failed compressor or compressor clutch, a blocked condenser, a faulty blend-door actuator or an electrical problem. Testing the system tells you which one it is.

Can you just recharge my AC?

A recharge restores cooling only if the system is otherwise sound. Low refrigerant means there's a leak, so the cold air usually fades again unless the leak is found and repaired before the system is recharged.

Why does my heater blow cold air?

Your heater uses hot engine coolant. Low coolant, a thermostat stuck open, air in the cooling system, a clogged heater core or a blend-door problem can all cause cold air from the vents.

Does the cabin air filter really matter?

Yes. A clogged cabin air filter reduces airflow, makes the AC and defroster work harder, and can cause musty odors. Many manufacturers recommend replacing it every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. Check your owner's manual for yours.

Do you also repair cooling systems?

Yes. We service and repair cooling systems, including thermostats, water pumps, radiators, belts and hoses, on all makes and models.
